{"id":1953,"date":"2017-11-07T09:07:34","date_gmt":"2017-11-07T08:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prover.com\/?p=1953"},"modified":"2025-01-13T11:35:03","modified_gmt":"2025-01-13T10:35:03","slug":"hackatons-new-way-producing-innovative-ideas-railway-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prover.com\/software-development\/hackatons-new-way-producing-innovative-ideas-railway-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Are &#8220;Hackatons&#8221; the new way of producing innovative ideas for the railway industry?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>On the 8th of December, HS2 Ltd and the Transport Systems Catapult (TSC) will be holding a 2 day &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/ts.catapult.org.uk\/HS2hackathon\/\">Hackaton&#8221;<\/a> in order to share ideas and concepts to expedite delivery of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/high-speed-two-limited\">High Speed Two (HS2)<\/a>, one of the largest modern infrastructure projects in the UK.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The best ideas will be selected to go through to a showcase event, where an expert panel will decide which teams will receive support to develop their idea further.<\/p>\n<p>The event invites teams (formed from individuals or pre-formed groups) to explore how new technologies might revolutionise key aspects of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/high-speed-two-limited\">HS2 project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Some of the topics that the teams need to come up with ideas for include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Well-being and safety through wearable technology or human machine interface design<\/li>\n<li>Augmented reality and virtual reality for a step change in construction and operation, such as training and maintenance inspections<\/li>\n<li>How existing and new technologies can help minimise disruption to passengers and communities during construction of HS2 and how the new HS2 stations can perform even better for everyone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>TSC have hosted \u2018Hackatons\u2019 in the past, and they have generated novel ideas with potential to revolutionise transport systems, and have attracted major funding from Innovate UK for further development.<\/p>\n<p>So is this the way forward for the Railway Industry?
