{"id":2906,"date":"2018-12-04T13:30:54","date_gmt":"2018-12-04T12:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prover.com\/?p=2906"},"modified":"2025-01-13T13:12:31","modified_gmt":"2025-01-13T12:12:31","slug":"new-concepts-and-competencies-needed-to-meet-future-demand-in-the-railway-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prover.com\/requirements\/new-concepts-and-competencies-needed-to-meet-future-demand-in-the-railway-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"New concepts and competencies needed to meet future demand in the railway industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is clear that there is a trend in the railway industry towards using modern tools and concepts for developing signaling solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Most interlocking system projects today are developed with the following characteristics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Errors are found late<\/li>\n<li>Late changes are costly<\/li>\n<li>Schedules to deliver interlocking software are long and unpredictable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is a need to start preparing the organization and build new competencies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Formal_methods\">Formal methods<\/a> is gaining more and more momentum as a way of designing and verifying interlocking systems. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prover.com\/hll-high-level-language\/\">The language HLL<\/a> has become a de-facto standard for formal verification. The configuration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prover.com\/software-solutions-rail-control\/lcf-layout-configuration-language\/\">data language LCF<\/a> has entered as a way to store configuration data in a formal way that is reviewable as well as machine-readable.<\/p>\n<h3>A different approach<\/h3>\n<p>The process for developing new modern solutions using design automation is different from the traditional approach.
